Embracing a Mission: My Journey in Music Ministry

 

In a world where music serves as a universal language, I have found my voice in a unique and profound way. My journey has been deeply intertwined with the rich cultural heritage of Runyankole Rukiga, Runyoro Rutooro, Kinyarwanda and Luganda. I have dedicated myself to writing many song lyrics and transcribing lyrical videos in these beautiful languages. This humble endeavor has blossomed into a powerful ministry that has touched the hearts of many, enabling them to worship Jesus meaningfully.

The essence of my inspiration stems from realizing that music has the incredible ability to bridge divides, evoke emotions, and foster a connection with our divine master. 

In Uganda, where I am born, grown and still reside, many ethnic cultures and languages are unified in praise and worship to God (Ruhanga, Katonda). When we go to church (Ekanisa, Ekerezia), we sing of many songs (enyimba, ebyeshongoro, ebizina) from other languages without understanding the meaning of these songs. Sometimes when we get to search about these songs we do not get the true lyrics and translations. Our languages are so rich in meaning and twists of variations in meaning and yet are not yet considered in the 'AI era of translations.' I labored to put these songs into writing and later added some simple art pieces to accompany them in transcribed videos.  

Our local churches often project these praise songs on screens during services, and local television stations showcase these uplifting anthems in their worship programs. Through my work, I have learned that there is nothing too small to share and have shifted focus to providing clarity, accurate and definitions to these song lines, allowing congregants and anyone stumbling upon them to immerse themselves in worship without the barrier of language. It is truly fulfilling to witness how my lyrics and transcriptions have enabled individuals to engage more deeply in their spiritual lives.

As technology advances, the dissemination of these praise songs has expanded beyond traditional church settings and praises. Mobile devices have become conduits for sharing inspiration, allowing people to access and enjoy music that uplifts their spirits and fosters a sense of community. I am continually amazed by the ripple effect (social sharing) of this simple task; every lyric transcribed and every song written carries the potential to spark joy and inspiration in countless lives.

However, my vision does not stop at the borders of Uganda. I am inspired to expand this ministry into several other languages, reaching beyond the confines of my homeland. I believe that the message of praise and worship transcends linguistic boundaries. With God's guidance and the right resources, I aspire to create a collection of musical archives that will serve as a valuable reference for future generations. These archives will not only preserve the rich tapestry of praise songs but also provide a platform for study and reflection on their significance.

The dream is to curate a diverse array of praise music that celebrates the love and grace of Jesus Christ across cultures and languages. By collaborating with musicians and lyricists from different backgrounds, I hope to create a vibrant, multicultural collection that reflects the global nature of worship. I envision a future where people from various linguistic backgrounds can come together, united in their praise and adoration for the divine.

As I embark on this ambitious journey, I recognize the challenges that lie ahead. However, I am fueled by a deep-seated FAITH that this ministry is a calling from God. I am committed to taking the necessary steps to streamline the process of archiving these musical collections, ensuring that they are accessible and preserved for generations to come. Each song, each lyric, represents a piece of a larger narrative – a narrative of faith, hope, and love that deserves to be shared.
